🇫🇮 P2X Solutions and avanca/Alternoil agree on the supply of e-methane

Harjavalta, Finland – August 18, 2026 – P2X Solutions and avanca/Alternoil have signed a long-term e-methane agreement, with deliveries due to commence in the final quarter of 2026. P2X Solutions will supply synthetic methane produced in Harjavalta to avanca/Alternoil for use as road transport fuel. As a result of the agreement, the current production capacity of the Harjavalta methanation plant has been fully booked for the next ten years.

P2X Solutions, a Finnish pioneer in green hydrogen and synthetic fuels, and avanca/Alternoil, one of Europe’s largest operators in the renewable LNG supply and distribution chain, have signed a long-term cooperation agreement for the supply of synthetic methane.

P2X Solutions will begin supplying synthetic methane to avanca/Alternoil in October 2026. The agreement also includes a target to significantly expand commercial cooperation in the future. One of the objectives is to increase the supply volume tenfold from the 2026 level.

Synthetic methane is a so-called e-fuel, the composition of which corresponds to that of transport gases currently in use. It offers an important solution, particularly for reducing emissions from road and maritime transport, and is completely independent of fossil fuels.

P2X Solutions produces synthetic methane at its Harjavalta methanation plant, where the green hydrogen produced by the company is further processed using captured carbon dioxide.

Clean fuel for heavy road transport in Europe

The first phase of the collaboration will focus on clean fuels for heavy road transport. The e-methane (e-LNG) supplied by P2X Solutions will be made available directly to the heavy-duty transport sector via avanca/Alternoil’s renewable REEFUEL network. Avanca/Alternoil will make the first commercial e-LNG available to its customers in 2026.

As a pioneer in renewable fuels, avanca Renewables AG manages the entire operation by sourcing bio-LNG and e-methane and coordinating production partnerships across Europe. Alternoil operates Germany’s largest renewable LNG distribution network, comprising 56 refuelling stations and over 120 refuelling points, which provide a nationwide, round-the-clock service. Together, avanca Energy AG and its subsidiaries cover the entire process from production to refuelling. These operations are supported by logistics, nationwide security stocks and the company’s own maintenance team.

Climate targets are expected to drive demand in the near future

In May 2026, Germany decided to introduce a 10% mandate for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels in road transport by 2040, as part of the implementation of the EU’s RED III Directive. The market demand generated by Germany’s decision alone is enormous compared to current production capacity.

“Germany is now setting an example for other EU countries with forward-looking, ambitious and feasible regulation to achieve the Union’s climate targets. Other EU countries are following suit as they begin to implement their own measures. At the same time, there is an urgent need to increase production capacity for clean fuels, as many pioneering European companies are now interested in Finnish producers. This presents an excellent export opportunity for Finland, as the conditions for producing green hydrogen and synthetic fuels are exceptionally good here,” said Plit.
