Citing security concerns, Russia opposes US startup promising satellite internet to remote areas

An FSB official said the agency feared the potential threat posed if a foreign company held a monopoly over internet access in remote areas, "especially in the Arctic region and Far North."

MOSCOW — Russia’s state security agency is opposing a high-level deal for the U.S. OneWeb satellite startup to bring Internet access to remote parts of the country because it says the project could be used to gather intelligence and damage national security.
