Russia’s Northern Fleet kicks off a major Barents Sea exercise

The exercise comes at the same time as military exercises elsewhere in the Arctic, and a buildup of Russian forces on the border with Ukraine.

With NATO aircraft watching from the skies over the Barents Sea, several Russian nuclear- and diesel submarines, surface warships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet on Monday sailed out from the Kola Peninsula to take part in a large military exercise.
