The Akademik Lomonosov is set to replace an aging coal-fired power plant at a remote Russian Arctic city. But critics worry over whether the floating nuclear power plant is safe enough.

In an interview with High North News, Russia’s Rosatom responded to some critiques about the safety of its floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov. But concerns remain about the facility, which is scheduled to be towed to the Arctic port of Pevek and begin electricity generation by the end of 2019.
